Kids Skiing in Meribel 02

Considering spending a week skiing in Meribel with children? Meribel is an excellent resort for all the family, and has a huge variety of activites to keep the little ones (and the bigger ones) happy. So what exactly is there for children in Meribel to do when you’re far from your home comforts and you’ve left your Peppa Pig DVD collection at home?

First up is the obvious, enrol them in one of Meribel’s Ski Schools! With a huge amount of companies and instructors to choose from, speaking a multitude of languages, you can be sure that your youngsters will be in capable hands. Just don’t be surprised if they progress a little faster than you do! It is now possible to purchase a Meribel family ski pass as well as tuition, or children’s ski pass with tuition, at around 221 Euros for 6 days for the latter, so it’s definitely worth asking if the company you go with have all-inclusive tariffs.

If you’re travelling with children under 5 and want to be sure they will be well looked after while you head off skiing for the afternoon, Meribel’s childcare options are numerous. There is a creche at La Chaudanne for younger children (18 months to 3 years) called the Saturnins that can provide everything your child needs from meals to sledging. Three covered Kindergartens are available for children from 3-5 years at Le Rond Point, La Chaudanne, or Meribel Mottaret. Effectively outdoor playgrounds, this is where your beloved infants will get their first taste of the snow, with mini ski-lifts, merry go-rounds and inflatable playground characters. A heated chalet, games and a rest area are also available.

Babysitters in Meribel are widely available too, so if you can’t rope your chalet girl into earning a little extra cash, why not try snowbugs to look after the little ones. Otherwise, if you’re happy taking the children out on the mountain with you, you can also pick up a free ski pass from any of the Meribel ski pass offices for under 5’s. Or, if you’re looking for a break from the snow, you can also get free access for under 5’s at the swimming pool and the ice rink, located in the Meribel Olympic centre. For those over 5, fear not, prices start at just 3.50 Euros. Other Meribel child-friendly activities available in the Olympic centre range from Bowling to climbing to cheering on the best team at an Ice Hockey match.

Above all, Meribel is a beautiful resort, and a wonderful place to spend time with the family. The free navette will take you everywhere you want to go, including up to Meribel’s Altiport to look at the planes, or into town for a chocolat chaud and board games at child friendly Evo’s. The bi-weekly market offers as many sweets as you can fit into a striped paper bag, and crepes à emporter are available for all those with a sweet tooth – try yours with a splash of Grand Marnier from Le Grand Marnier in Meribel Centre for an extra kick. Another personal favourite is Le VIllage de Pains for the best chocolate crispy cakes, and picnic tables set outside for you to enjoy the sunshine with your favourite people in the world. What could be better?!
